About the
Mass. Bar Foundation

The Massachusetts Bar Foundation (MBF) represents the commitment of the lawyers and judges of Massachusetts to improve the administration of justice, to promote an understanding of the law, and to ensure equal access to the legal system for all residents of the Commonwealth.

The MBF is the Commonwealth's premier legal charity. Founded in 1964, the MBF is the philanthropic partner of the Massachusetts Bar Association. Through its grant-making and charitable activities, the MBF works to increase access to justice for all citizens of Massachusetts, especially those most vulnerable.

The impact of the MBF’s work can be felt in every region of the Commonwealth. From Cape Cod to the Berkshires, the MBF provides critical funding to legal aid programs that help low-income individuals and families get the help they need to overcome tremendous obstacles and move toward a brighter future.

“MBF is the best way to do my part."

When we were admitted to the Massachusetts bar, most of us wanted to “change the world.” I have found that the MBF is the best way to do my part. The Foundation allows us to combine our talents and our resources and make a huge difference in the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.
