Boston-- At the Massachusetts Bar Foundation’s recent Annual Meeting, Attorney Jerry Cohen, of Burns and Levinson LLP, was honored with the Great Friend of Justice Award. Over 130 MBF Fellows, grantees and friends attended the event, held on March 3, at the Social Law Library in the John Adams Courthouse in Boston.

The MBF’s Great Friend of Justice Award is presented annually to an individual who has demonstrated extraordinary passion for justice, consistent with the MBF’s mission of increasing access to justice in the state.  A former MBF president, Cohen was honored for his dedicated commitment to pro bono work, which includes representation of four Guantanamo detainees, all of whom have been released thanks to his assistance over the last ten years.

“For more than 50 years, Jerry has been fighting for right causes. His dedication to pro bono work and to the pursuit of justice exemplify the spirit and values at the heart of the MBF,” said MBF President Robert J. Ambrogi of Rockport.

The MBF also made an encore presentation of its 50th Anniversary President’s Award to Attorney Roy A. Hammer of Hemenway & Barnes LLP, who had been unable to receive his award in person at the foundation’s anniversary gala last fall.
